Inspired by two families’ love for the water and coastal activities, this weekend retreat and future retirement home overlooks the intercostal waterway. Open living areas occupy the third, uppermost floor, ensuring all occupants the best views. A large kitchen with double appliances is designed to allow cooks space to work while still engaging in conversations and activities in other living areas. A guest room off the upper level and sleeping loft provide room for visitors. The second floor includes two generous master suites, each with getaway space and work areas for telecommuters.
Piers lift the house ten feet above the ground to accommodate coastal weather. An elevator provides easy access to living and bedroom floors. A bridge connects a lookout nook with a 180-degree view of the water and sunsets to the sleeping loft. Screened porches, decks and patios extend life to the outdoors.
Built to Energy Star standards, the home includes a geothermal heating and cooling system, a sealed attic and abundant cross-ventilation.
